Let's Get Cleaning!

About four years ago, Asian Efficiency posted an incredibly motivating and helpful article written by Kayla Matthews on how to keep your home clean when you are a busy person. This day in age, everyone is always on the go and tend to be exhausted when they are finally home. Or, even after a busy day, they want to go out with their significant other or go out with friends but feel like they shouldn't abandon their duties at home. (Keeping it clean and healthy.) SO, as a solution to all of the above, why not utilize these tips and tricks to keep your home clean and help you feel less stressed?!

Here are the twenty tips that Kayla Matthews writes:

  1. If it doesn't look dirty, don't clean it.
  2. Divide cleaning up across every weeknight.
  3. Rinse and put dishes away after each meal.
  4. Keep cleaning supplies near the areas where you use them.
  5. Throw away old food on garbage night.
  6. Fix broken appliances right away.
  7. Keep microfiber cloths around for quick and easy dusting.
  8. Get rid of stuff you don't need.
  9. Keep a shoe rack by the front door.
  10. Get an air purifier.
  11. Use tart warmers and candles.
  12. Stick to warm colors.
  13. Use trendy storage cubes for small items.
  14. Use lots of rugs.
  15. Keep decorative towels on countertops.
  16. Do x while enjoying z.
  17. Do your cleaning to music.
  18. Listen to standup.
  19. Get a Roomba.
  20. Reward yourself.
If you want to dive into each of these tips and tricks, click "article" in the first sentence to go directly to Kayla's article! Personally, I don't necessarily agree with all of these, but that doesn't mean they're wrong!

Whether you are busy or not, I personally think there are some methods that even when you are busy, you should still be utilizing and making time for. When done right and often, it won't even take you long!

Let's start with number one. While something may not look dirty, that doesn't mean you shouldn't clean it. You don't know what kind of germs might be lingering, so why not clean it even if you can't see the mess? You'll reduce your chances of getting yourself or others sick, and it'll give you more peace of mind. Moving on to number four. While I agree with keeping kitchen cleaner in the kitchen and bathroom cleaner in the bathroom, I don't think that you need to have cleaning supplies near where you clean overall because if you think about it, you clean every room in the house. Why not just have a designated closet/cabinet/storage area to keep your broom, mop, vacuum, sprays, etc.? You have to clean every room in the house anyway so rather finding room in each room for these items, just have one designated area. Now, on to number twelve. I don't think colors tend to determine whether you keep your space clean or not. If you are happy with the color choices you made in the room and the items you have in the room, you are more likely to keep the room clean whether you are busy or not. Lastly, I do not think you need a Roomba. I have never had one, but I personally feel as though it's easier to just use a vacuum and make sure that everything gets vacuumed. A Roomba doing it's own thing isn't 100% reliable as it might miss some spots because you are not in control of it and it is an inanimate object.

Consider utilizing these ideas and enjoy your happy, clean, and healthy home! Have a great weekend!
