Prepping Your Spring Landscaping

If you get a jump on your dirty work first, putting the finishing touches on your landscaping will be a breeze once full-on summer weather arrives. Follow these helpful tips and tricks to prep your landscaping for the new season. Image via www.houzz.com Get rid of all the dead - Before you get to work putting new additions to your lawn, get rid of the "trash" in your yard. This includes, but is not limited to, pinecones, dead leaves or grass, litter, plants that didn't make it through the winter, etc. Prepare your planting beds - If you did your work before winter hit, this job will be much easier on you. Till up and sift through the existing soil in your beds and add in compost to get the soil mineral rich before you plant your summer goodies. Refurbish lawn furniture and ornaments - Dig out your lawn chairs and give them a scrub down as well as a new coat of paint or sealer. With winter on its way, your yard could probably use some attention. The good news is if you get a jump on it now you'll be all set to settle in an relax for the winter. If necessary, you may want to move around your perennials. Just be certain that you don't break any roots. Also, if you haven't yet, bring in any house plants that were enjoying the warm weather. Remove Leaves A few leaves left over in your lawn won't hurt much, but a pile of leaves is a different story. If you leave a big pile of wet leaves in your yard and visit the same spot come spring, you'll be sorely disappointed at what you see.
