#Throwback: Bygone Home Features

If you're an antique lover, you'll love this post! Antiques and bygone homefeatures are on there way back in, and they're going to be trending all year long. Check out some neat home features that are considered bygone, but not for long! Telephone Nook A way of the "good 'ol days," the phone nook is a classic bygone that folks seem to really like. Of course, you could use this small space as a closet, but why not spruce it up with a decorative chair and end table to enjoy a conversation with someone you love who is far away? Image via www.houzz.com Dumbwaiter It certainly isn't a nice name, but the dumbwaiter is a bygone home feature that can be an attractive attribute for any modern home. As the name entails, it was used by waiters or butlers to transport goods to another part of the home, but multistory homes could benefit from this feature, too! Updated Project Photos!

We are happy to share with our followers some updated project photos for a Hamilton home being built using the panelized building method in western Massachusetts.  Even in the icey cold with snow and ice, Hamilton homes are going up all over the place!  Happy Friday!

Thrifty Thursday: Table Tops

When things wear out, we tend to throw them out. It's good to get into the practice of reusing and recycling when possible. One common item we tend to throw out is old furniture that just doesn't seem worth reviving. But, if you have an old coffee table, dining table, or dresser, this neat idea may spark you interest, and give you a "new" addition to your home. You'll need: A base coast paint  Paint for your print (spray paint works well) Your cloth pattern of choice (old lace, crocheted fabric, and doilies work nicely) Tape *Materials will differ from project to project, but generally tape, paint, and a pattern are the basic materials     Image via www.topdreamer.com     Image via www.hometalk.com Sources www.pinterest.com

Safety Tips For Bitter Cold Weather

We hope there isn't too much bitter cold weather ahead of us, but just in case, read up on these safety tips to stay safe when the temperature drops below freezing.  Image via www.redcross.org 1. Keep your gas tank full - If you take this precaution your gas line won't freeze, and in case of an emergency, you won't have to stop for gas. Just imagine driving in a blizzard and running out of gas! 2. Prepare a survival kit - This might sound extreme, but having enough supplies for at least 3 days isn't really all that drastic. After all, if the power goes out, you don't want to be worrying about finding a flashlight or a gallon of water. Keep basic essentials in your home and car at all times. 3. Leave the heat on even when you're gone - You don't have to crank the heat when you're away, but don't just turn it off, either. 55 degrees should be the lowest you set your thermastat so that pipes don't freeze and neither will your

5 Ways Millennials are Changing the Housing Market

Like it or not, millennials are next in line to shift the housing market. And, to no surprise, there are some distinct differences between millennials' housing market practices and their parents - the baby boomers and the X generation. Millennials are prepared for housing prices to rise. Unlike their older counterparts,  86% of millennials believe that housing prices will rise within the next year. Millennials aren't so concerned about the pricetag of that dream home. Despite believing prices are only going up, millennials expressed that in 10 years they'll still be able to afford the pricey homes they're living in. Millennials are less tied down. Moving from house-to-house is a norm in the mind of the younger generation, and most believe they'll be leaving their current home within the next 5 years. Millennials are more likely to have more valuable homes in the future. They're getting some of the lowest loan costs in modern history, and th
