These days, it's as if almost no one is happy with their home, especially when it comes to those areas where literally all of the homes look the same. This can become an issue when having guests over or even if you aren't fully paying attention and try to go to the wrong home. Now, Jasmine Roth, actually likes these homes as she finds them challenging but exciting to turn around. Let's dive into what Jasmine suggests doing to change these homes in her article at HGTV as well as some of our own suggestions!

The first thing that Jasmine suggests is to upgrade your fireplace. She says that while you might not be upset with it, if you're living in an area where all houses look the same, chances are the fireplace is the same in all homes so why not make it unique to stand out? She says that you can utilize drywall and wallpaper to truly transform it! One thing that I would suggest is deciding what you want the focal point to be in each room. This could be a piece of furniture or artwork or architectural design and then decorating and setting up the room to work with the focal point. This will truly transform your room and allow everything to flow nicely.
The next suggestion Jasmine makes is to add color to your door and she says that while personally she loves neutral palettes (as do I), if you like other colors, you should pick the darkest hue in that palette so your home doesn't look like a circus or cartoon. When it comes to colors, I personally love changing up the walls at home and painting them a new color. It's nice to give the room a change and changing the wall colors I feel is the biggest change of all. I think that the wall colors truly affect the feel and mood of the room. My room at home is grey, black, white and a little bit of a light purple. The effect I was going for in the room was comfort and easy to style. I think I will be removing the purple though and just keeping it grey, white, and black. (Walls grey, doors and furniture and part of the bedding are black, trim and part of the bedding are white.)
Jasmine also suggest to use stencils and paint to make the stair risers look nicer. While I think that this is an interesting idea, I personally am not a fan. I think stairs look better neutral but again, it is up to you and your preference!
Jasmine then tells us to replace old light fixtures and I could not agree more! A light fixture also has a way of just adding such character to a room, whether it's an elegant feel, comfort feel, or funky feel you're looking for. One of my go-to light fixtures lately have been those with geometric shapes, glass, or a lantern looking feel. I like them to be clear and black if possible because they can work with almost any feel you are looking for.
The last thing that Jasmine suggests is to transform a closet into a kid's hangout, but if you're like me and don't have kids, consider turning it into a room for your pet or a mini library or upgrade the closet to hold more clothes and shoes and such. Take a look at your life to figure out where you feel the room would get most use.
