Jeremy Andberg of artofmanliness.com wrote this article to give us some tips on how to stay cool without putting our AC's on blast and with the weather this last weekend, we think they are great to follow! Let's dive into them as well as give our own input, shall we?

Jeremy says that our windows and blinds are important to work with when it comes to keeping cool. He suggests keeping the windows open at night and the blinds closed during the day! He says a majority of the heat that comes inside our homes are coming through our windows due to the "greenhouse effect" which he says is where sunlight and heat can enter, but cannot leave. He suggests keeping fans on in as many rooms as possible to allow good airflow. One thing I've found that helps is having blackout curtains. I purchased mine at Wal-Mart for cheap and have noticed a significant difference in how my room feels!

The next one Jeremy talks about is kind of a given one, which is appliances. He suggests doing chores at night when it is a little cooler so that running things like the washer and dryer wont add too much extra heat to an already warm home. He talks about skipping the oven and stove and using the grill more, that'll keep the inside of your home cooler! I'd also like to recommend maybe skipping that appliance as well and sticking to easier made food and cooler food like sandwiches and fruits and salads and such. Also, I find the less electricity you are losing, the cooler your home will be. Essentially, if it's light enough out where you don't need lights, don't have them on. If there area electronics you aren't using, turn them off or unplug them. This will also help tremendously. I also find taking a cool shower helps as well.

Jeremy also talks about keeping doors open in the home (not to the outside) and I agree as it will allow good air flow to each room, especially if you follow the previous steps and you'll save on the electric bill!

Keep in mind that heat rises so it may be best to hang around on lower levels, but if you'd rather not, utilize these tips and tricks upstairs to help maximize your comfort.

Jeremy also gives ideas on how to keep your outdoor spaces a little cooler by adding things like trees that provide shade and awnings and such. Also, a pool or water feature doesn't hurt!

With all of that in mind, make sure you are keeping yourself hydrated while following these tips and you should be go! These tips allow you to stay cooler, and you can still use your AC but you won't have to have it as high. Make sure you change the filters in it as well! Enjoy your week!

Things are looking up!

When it comes to different types of ceilings, there is a lot to choose from. If you're like most people, you think of the standard drop ceiling that we're used to seeing in many homes is the only option. That kind of thinking couldn't be further from the truth! If you're considering switching things up with your new home, check out this post to brainstorm some ideas for a new ceiling. Seeing the beams of the house in plain sight can create a rustic feel or simply add symmetry to the room's ambiance. Either way, they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
