Building a Home Gym

Going to the gym can be expensive, and depending on how far away your gym is, it can be time consuming, too. If you're one for working out, consider the option of building your own, personal home gym. You'll have the convenience and comfort of exercising in your own home, which means you'll be more apt to work out, the equipment will always be clean, and you'll have the luxury of privacy.

Flooring - The flooring in your gym can be simple and cheap. Pictured on the right are interlocking high-density foam mat squares. This padded flooring is ideal for a home gym, and you can purchase the squares from places like Dick's Sporting Goods or even Gander Mountain.

Walls - You'll probably want to put something on the walls to make your gym more aesthetically pleasing. Putting up mirrors always seems to be a common theme in gyms, so include some mirrors in your new home gym, too. Mirrors provide feedback when you're working out, as you can view your form and where you can improve.

Storage - Adding in a small storage area is a great way to stay organized and add space to your gym. Floating shelves are a sleek look that won't take up too much space and are easy to install. You can store your shoes, a stereo, light free weights, or whatever you want to maintain a tidy workout space.
