FAQ: First Time Home Builders

Building a house for the first time can be a long and arduous project. It can take years of planning, calling, arranging, and decision making. And of course, money becomes a major factor to take into consideration, which can make the process stressful. Fortunately, Hamilton Building Services can help ease some of your worries. Review this checklist to prepare for your new home build!

  1. Brainstorm - First, you need to have a vision of your floor plan. Your floor plan will eventually turn into blueprints, but you'll need to have a pretty clear cut idea of the square footage you want, how many rooms you want and the function of them, and any other additional details about the basic structure of the house.
  2. Land - While in the brainstorming stage, you'll also want to be searching for land to build on. Searching for the right plot of land could have its own check list, so make sure you are thorough when making a final decision where you will want to build.
  3. Get Pre-Qualified - You'll need to get in contact with your local lending institution and find out how you qualify to build a new house.
  4. Meet with Independent Hamilton Dealer - Next, you'll meet with one of Hamilton's independent dealers to discuss a more in depth plan of what your home will look like, how it will be constructed, discuss a timeline, and look at the property you have chosen.
  5. Pricing Estimate - Your independent dealer will provide you with a price estimate and you can discuss the details.
  6. Secure the Land - You'll want to purchase your land so the builders can start mapping out your home build.
  7. Sign the Contract - The next step will be to review the blueprints for a final time and sign your building contract to begin construction.
  8. Finalize Plan with Dealer - You'll next need to meet with your independent dealer and finalize all plans.
  9. Colors & Style - This is one of the fun steps. After finalizing the paperwork, start thinking more about style and color schemes you would like in you new home.
  10. Close on Loan - Closing on your home loan is one of the last steps you'll need to take.
  11. Construction - Once you've completed the above steps your independent dealer can start building your new dream house!
