It's a tale as old as time. You've been there. You just moved into your new home and you're ready to make it your own! You want to style it so that it is beautiful, but still shows your personality and yet, you find yourself asking, "How do I do this?" Have no fear! Our friends over at HGTV have taught us just that!

In short, the three key factors in decorating a room successfully are:

  • FUNCTION
  • MOOD
  • PERSONALITY
We know what you're thinking, "That's great, but how do I use those to create THE room of my dreams?"

It's actually simple and you don't need to be a professional designer or decorator to do so! You just need to remember those key factors and utilize them so that they fit your style! Now, let's get started!

When it comes to function, you want to make sure you have a focal point, the right furniture, and the right furniture arrangement, as well as the right lighting. These will make your room not only beautiful but functional! Everything has a purpose. Do you want this to be a comfy-cozy room? If so, add more blankets and pillows! Perhaps a recliner and an option for dimmed lighting. Do you want this to be an entertaining room? If so, adjusting your current furniture to furniture that allows more people to utilize it! Such as longer couches, a coffee table, etc can be a huge lifesaver! Storage is your friend, remember that, especially when it comes to games or the tv and movies! Maybe some neutral colors with an accent wall of a color that pops!

In regards to mood, you want to find THE inspiration piece. This will almost provide you with the theme, color cues, patterns, texture, and furniture you want for the room! The inspiration piece will bring you ideas to help make this room come alive! If the mood you're looking for is that comfy-cozy, consider working with the color grey, maybe in different shades. That always seems to be a calming color! Whatever color you decide, think about using softer colors rather than harsher colors. A harsher color might be good if you were using the room for entertainment purposes, you know, to keep people awake!

Lastly, we have personality. This all truly depends on the person, but accessorizing is key. HGTV suggests to make it whimsy or even utilize the unexpected! Take a look into your own life to see what it is that makes you, YOU! Maybe add your favorite piece of decor and work around the rest of the room based on that object. (Colors, set-up, etc.) You could even work with this in reverse! Start with the colors and furnitures, and then decorate with favorite pieces that are in the color scheme! Possibilities are endless!

Light Up Your Kitchen

You can have the most beautiful kitchen in the world, but if it's poorly lit, you'd never know - what a shame! Avoid this common problem by installing appropriate lighting in your kitchen and dining area. There are two questions to ask yourself when you're adding lighting in to your kitchen: what kind of lighting will I choose, and where will I decide the lighting should be? #SolarSunday

Having a pool to cool off and relax in is a luxury that is especially nice during these hot summer months. But, like most luxuries in life, time, energy, and money must be put into owning a pool. One of the costs associated with having a pool is the money it takes to heat a pool. If you are interested in swimming in your pool after the sun goes down or during cooler months, heating your pool is a viable option to consider. Check out some information about how solar hot water collectors can heat your pool. How does it work? Pool water gets pumped through a filter into a solar hot water collector. Solar hot water collectors are thin and generally mounted on a roof. Thin pipes of water then run through the collector. When the sun's rays hit the collector, they heat the running water inside.
